Dirk Koetter is right.
He said everything on my mind in the post-game. That was an absolutely pathetic attempt at offense. He—and the team—should embarrassed. And the team should have paid the fans to sit through that mess. That the team needs to start back in square one: learning how to throw, catch, and pass protect. And that the ultimate responsibility for this mess lies squarely on his shoulders. Amen, my friend.
God that was awful. If you would have told me that we’d have less than 40 yards passing in a game last August, I would have told you that Carpenter was hurt and Sullivan was forced to start. Well, Rudy is hurt, but not its nothing the training staff or a surgeon can fix.
It was a collapse, pure and simple. In a day when virtually nothing went right for the Devils, the team showed no heart, no passion, no pride. And while several players had horrible games—Rudy Carpenter and Stephen Berg come to mind—this was definitely a team loss. The 2006 Sun Devils have more to fix than just Carpenter’s spirit. They have to figure out how to protect the QB, how to run crisp routes and get open, how to wrap up a tackle, how to pressure the opposing QB, how to defend the pass, and how to play with heart.
They have a fortnight to figure it out.
